About Me

My name is Jake and I'm from the Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne, having grown up around the Dandenong Ranges, Wurundjeri Country. I was first introduced to Yoga through my meditation practice. I started practicing mindfulness meditation at 19, and after around a year of practice a friend introduced me to yoga asanas (postures). I immediately fell in love with the practice of yoga. I found that it not only deepened my meditation practice, but it also helped me to feel more restful and at ease. It gave me a sense of perspective, space for reflection and helped my body to feel more spacious and relaxed.

I've been practicing Yoga for over a decade, and in 2021 I travelled up to Krishna Village in Northern NSW to complete my 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training. Here is where I fell in love with teaching yoga. From the moment I taught my first postures in class, I knew that this is what I wanted to be doing. After my training, I travelled back to Melbourne, where I taught online until after the COVID restrictions eased. Once studios reopened again, I then started teaching in studios around the Eastern Suburbs.

Having worked and studied in the Mental Health field for over a decade, I'm particularly interested in the interplay and overlap between yoga and mental health. This led me to completing my Mental Health Aware Yoga Training in 2023/2024, which included writing an article on Yoga and Burnout that was published online (please see link below). I aim for my yoga classes to be accessible and to create a feeling of calm and safety for all.

In 2024 I returned to Northern NSW to complete my 300 Hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training, and then 2025 I began assisting on Yoga Teacher Trainings and offering mentorship for both new and established yoga teachers. I am deeply passionate about helping yoga students and teachers on their path, deepening both their individual practice and teaching.

I'm also passionate about music and kirtan. I play harmonium, guitar and bass guitar, and love both leading or being part of kirtan practices! Another passion of mine is hiking and spending time in nature, I find both to be deeply grounding and calming for me.
